“Most of my waking hours since about 11am on Monday have been spent trying to figure out what happened during the first half of the marathon.
“…guy next to me says, “Hang in there buddy. Got some shade coming up.” I remember all I could say was, “it’s so hot.”
“…This race, more than any other, means the world to me. And I pride myself on never quitting, never letting up, always embracing the challenge of every run. So for both of those things to come crashing down at the same time… just tough.
“…When I made it back to the hotel, she was there to give a big hug - I could see through a few tears that she was hiding a sign in the corner of the lobby she’d made for the race. I went upstairs to clean up - when I made it back down, the crumpled sign was gone and in its place, she handed me a newly-bought card with the sweetest, most wonderful note inside. So even though I was disappointed, ashamed, and full of regret, I’d also never felt more full of love. And in that sense, the 2013 Boston Marathon was far better than anything I could have imagined.”

Bridging Past & Future
It’s something I’ve been looking forward to seeing since I saw the first photos online. The Porsche 911 has changed very little in its lifetime with the exception of minor tweaks and improvements and this new one (991) is no different.
In fact, it changed so little on the outside that with a quick glance at the front end, you might mistake it for a 997 model, I did. The rear end is a different story. With the biggest changes to the tail lights in over a decade, the new 911 is the bridge between the past and present.
The 991 has softer curves and looks like its styling has a been pumped with a little Porsche 356. It’s a little sexier than the 997 and a little bigger, but not noticeably bigger.
The minimal aesthetic tweaks are matched by minimal technological tweaks. It now has electronic steering (controversial in some enthusiast minds), the choice of a 7-speed manual or 7-speed PDK dual clutch transmission, and a smarter active suspension system.
It’s a little more powerful (with a smaller engine), a little more efficient, a little lighter, a little more aerodynamic. It truly is a better 911 and in Porsche tradition, that’s the way it should be.
